The Easiest Ways to Save Money

Learning to change our money habits is hard.

Instead of trying every little frugal tip you come across, look for some big wins today to help you save more quickly and easily.

  1. Delete the apps and subscriptions. Instead of having access to all the ways you normally spend money, switch them off. Remove them from your phone so you cannot use them. This includes deleting the apps, deleting the cards in your Google Wallet/ApplePay, unsubscribing and making it as hard as possible to spend. If you do this, you are much less likely to throw things on AfterPay/ZipPay etc and less inclined to spend since it isn't as easy as a quick tap and pay.
  2. What are your biggest bills? How can you reduce them? Housing, groceries and transport are 3 of the biggest expenses for most households.
You probably can't move for cheaper rent or reviewing your mortgage might not be possible right now, so look at groceries, transport and whatever else costs you a lot. Can you use up what you have left to make the groceries stretch? Would mixing up a batch of pancakes for dinner prevent you going to the store tonight? Check out how to reduce the cost of groceries here.
    If it is transport,
  3. Check your entitlements: whether it is making sure you are getting all the benefits you are eligible for with Centrelink, checking your discounts are applied to your electricity, seeing what your state offers you, do it today. Not all discounts or benefits are automatically applied so check your payments and bills to make sure they are.
  4. Read this post for tips to reduce all your expenses.
  5. Review your habits. What are the ways you are spending money without even realising it or that add up fast. For example, treats in groceries, going to the shops a few times a week to top up, buying takeaway because you are too tired to cook, impulse buys because you are hanging out at the shops, regular cafe visits with friends instead of something else?
How can you change those? E.g. stick to the budget with groceries, make your own treats or takeaway, freeze takeaway options ahead of time such as butter chicken, pizza etc so you are not as tempted. Go for walks, explore your area or meet at free places instead of the shops and cafes.
  6. Compare bills: it is talked about all the time because it can save you hundreds quickly. Pick one bill to review today such as electricity, water, gas, car insurance or health insurance.
  7. Schedule time now to review your budget regularly!
  8. Choose some tips to help you resiste temptation.

Our Meal Plan

I mentioned we tried Marly Spoon this week with our big discount which you can get here. With the discount, it is worth it. Full price it's not.

The ingredients are fresh but I find the meals a bit boring.

In a few days, I am going to share some struggle meals from my life and from friends all over the world. It was so interesting to learn from them what was considered a cheap meal or food when they grew up or when they struggled as an adult.

Others were...
