How To Celebrate on a Budget

If you read last week, you will know I blew my debt plan the month before due to celebrating paying off small debts. I didn't take on more debt but I lost sight of my bigger goal.

So how can you celebrate on a budget?

Firstly, make it part of the budget. Some celebrations you know will happen such as birthdays, special events and you can plan accordingly.

Others, such as wedding invitations or a surprise promotion you want to celebrate might not but you can still include a section in your budget for celebrations.

How to do kids birthdays on a budget: planning, preparation, gifts, food, all of it.
How to manage expensive invitations such as weddings, engagements, work lunches etc.
How to easily get $2,000 in time for Christmas and how to do Christmas with no money
Over 200 birthday freebies for Aussies
If you drink, get discounted wine with Good Pair Days or try Naked Wines and get up to $100 off plus free delivery.
How to travel for free or super cheap
Use free gift cards to do it

Decide how you want to celebrate, plan it into your budget and celebrate accordingly.

Meal Plan

We recently tested the meal kit offers and while the discounts were great, overall, the meals were boring compared to what we are used to. If you want to try them or want to get discounted food, do it here.

This week I was gifted a bunch of seafood (mostly frozen), some of the parents at our school gifted lemons, madarins, spinach, zucchini and olives. Between everyone, there was such an abundance of food in their gardens. We don't have a thriving garden yet but they were adamant we take some.

As a result, here is our meal plan this week:

Seafood boil with fish cakes/crab cakes for lunch using leftovers
Seafood pasta with prawns, baby octopus etc.
Zucchini Bake
Eggs and vegetables
Stracciatella Soup
Gumbo
Pizza

Recently, I was talking with friends about our struggle meals or foods growing up. Seafood was common through either fishing themselves or being friends with people who did including abalone, oysters and lobster. Fruits in their areas being bartered or grown abundantly in council areas and not sprayed such as mangoes in the tropical areas, olives in Perth, herbs in some areas etc. Some families used up everything including eyeballs, stomachs, regularly ate liver and so on. Others were...
