How to Feel Better About Your Finances and Life

How to Feel Better About Your Finances and Life

With the rising cost of living, house prices coming down, debt levels increasing across the country, the festive season coming up meaning school holidays, possibly days off work for some, festive expenses etc. Many feel stuck.

Or scared.

Or extremely ashamed and disappointed with where they are at financially.

You might feel you will never achieve your financial goals or have an easier life.

In various Facebook groups we have seen this come up a lot, people struggling and feeling like life will never get better no matter how much they work or cut back.

So how can you feel better about it? How can you be happy with what you have?

  1. Get Assessed - if it is severe, you might have depression or anxiety or any other number of mental health issues right now. You might need medication, therapy or extra help and that is ok. Get assessed if you need to, or simply for your own peace of mind so you know what you are really dealing with and have some professional help.
  2. Get Financial Counselling or Help. There are charities and services depending on your situation who can help with financial counselling, negotiate with debt collectors and make things a bit easier.
  3. What do you like about your life/what can you be grateful for or appreciate? Try to list a few things you love about your life or lifestyle. If you can, get 10 or 20 written down and do this often. The more we focus on what we appreciate and love, the less we are focusing on what we hate.
  4. What is holding you back from your goal? Is it lack of funds, no time or energy for a side hustle? Debt too high? What is 1 thing you can do to move forward with it today?
  5. How can you get 1% better? Rather than trying to change everything and become the best at it all today, how can you get 1% better today and every day?
  6. Start a hobby or pick up an old one. You might like these 10 hobbies that can make or save you money.
  7. Create a small goal you can achieve quickly to feel a sense of accomplishment.
